About

Award-winning harpist Karen Koh obtained a M.Mus with world renowned harpist Judy Loman, and has performed in Canada, the UK, Singapore, and Malaysia. She has also performed with the Singapore Symhony Orchestra, the Metropolitan Festival Orchestra, and other performing groups. Her B.Mus was completed with Gulnara Mashurova, Principal Harpist of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra.

Karen picked up the harp as a second instrument at the late age of 15. However, her proficiency at the instrument increased rapidly and within 3 years of taking up the instrument, she received an invitation from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) to perform at a High Scorer’s Concert for doing well at the ABRSM graded exams and also appeared on the front page of the official magazine of the ABRSM, “Upbeat” (http://www.abrsm.org/regions/fileadmin/user_upload/emails/upbeatApril09.pdf).

Karen was born into a musical environment. Her parents met while playing in the school band, while she and her siblings started learning the piano by the age of 4. After starting to learn the piano at a young age, Karen is now a holder of a Yamaha Grade 5 diploma, an ABRSM (Diploma) holder, as well as a Grade 6 certificate in theory from the ABRSM. Karen also holds a BMus hon. (2nd upper) from the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, the music faculty of the National University of Singapore, as well as a MMus in Harp Performance from the University of Toronto.
